They actively encourage schools to accept smartphones, and social networking as part their educational provision, and offer a range of guidelines and advice to different levels of practitioner. In the report, they deal head on with the challenges: The rapid growth in the use of social media and mobile devices has created both a crisis and an opportunity for school leaders. Very impressive! | CELL PHONES IN LEARNING MARCH 5, 2008 Persuasive Video on Cell Phones and Schools I created this video for my presentation at the MACUL conference tomorrow in Grand Rapids, MI. Update: Here is the Link to video on TeacherTube.Enjoy would love some feedback on it. The goal is to give a perspective of educational history and technology, where common technology tools (such as a chalkboard or pen or even Internet) were once banned and labeled "harmful" as we are doing with cell phones. Enjoy! | | | | | | | | | | MOBLEARN JANUARY 19, 2012 iBooks 2 – Introducing the future textbook? ULEARNING BLOG | THURSDAY, MAY 10, 2012 Computers aren’t so special anymore, but the kids may be better off: An introduction to mobile ‘appliance computing’ in Queensland schools A strong case can be made that a revolution is underway in how computers are being perceived and used in schools across the world. For example an informal survey of over 600 students conducted by the Principal at a lower-socio economic school north of Brisbane in 2008 showed that more students already owned a mobile device such as an MP3 player, Nintendo DS and digital cameras than used a PC regularly (and this wasn’t even counting mobile phones!). The second factor is the growth in availability of these devices in schools. How do we know this? see p20). phone? link]. MORE >> -
ULEARNING BLOG | WEDNESDAY, MARCH 7, 2012 What does the new iPad mean for education? Significantly, my number one item for how the new 2012 iPad will impact education is not the new 2012 iPad at all – its the fact that the 2011 iPad 2 is now much more affordable for schools – $100, or a permanent 20% discount in fact. And if schools take the tip of buying refurbished units when they can (these still have the full warranty) you can now get an iPad 2 for US$349. For students (and readers in general), I’m positing that there will be less eye strain – a good outcome for schools that are deploying iPads to large numbers of students. MORE >> -
