Lifting conferences to become real learning environments
In November 2010 colleagues and I will be organizing the 'Emerging Voices' conference (a conference on public health issues for young researchers mainly from developing countries) that is filled with new approaches (= MC battles to discuss content, speed content dating, and all the basic stuff interactive streaming, social media incorporation.).

New Research on Student's and Cell Phone Use
Among high school students 85 percent report having an iPod 70 percent have a laptop or netbook 30 percent have smart phones For the first time since 2003, when asked to identify the major obstacle to prevent use of technology in school, students in grades 6–12 said “I cannot use my own cell phone, smart phone or Mp3 player in school.”

What was his speech about: mobile phones are the most prevalent technology, ever. 10% of youth feel perfectly relaxed with sending sms messages while having sex (UK research). Ringtones are 5 billion dollar business, no other technology had use for ringtones => new businesses start up. 4,6 billion people have a phone.

Although durability is featured as a word in a lot of these projects, it is not really a long-term strategy, as it does not imply new technologies will be used, or new innovations will be tested. Mobile learning for development workshops by Great researchers
Niall and Yishay recently started a new idea on the site Mobile Learning for Development (ml4d) in which they search for the narratives behind mobile projects aiming at building a knowledge bank that can serve qualitative research on mobile projects later on. Over the years I have met both Niall Winters and Yishay Mor on many occasions.
