mLearn conference in Malta, if you can go, join and let's meet
The mLearn conference is one of the top mobile learning conferences around and it features high quality academic research (which reminds me I still have to post some information on mLearn2008). The city of Valletta on the island of Malta will be the venue of the 9th mLearn 2010 conference. The nice thing about this conference is also the very open atmosphere of sharing knowledge. The conference will take place from 19 - 22 nd October 2010. and I am already looking forward to strolling about the island, looking for (mostly) Roman remains. It is also a perfect sailing area.

Instead of banning phones and giving detention to any student foolish enough to take out their mobile in class, the school has been part of a nine-month research project into whether they can be used effectively in teaching. During 2007 and 2008 Dr Elizabeth Hartnell-Young from the Learning Sciences Research Institute at Nottingham University and her colleagues explored ways in which students in five secondary schools could use smartphones in class. In the research project many of the students were given phones to use, but this is not going to be the case generally.
