News is king of content on mobile devices
Mobile devices are used to consume media of all types, but the Pew Research Center reports that news is the number one thing that Americans access on their devices. Here’s a link to the Information Week article on the Pew study:
It’s not hard to believe because our news has become increasingly “byte-sized”. We use our mobile devices frequently, but for short periods of time in most cases and that follows the byte-sized model so news may be a natural fit.

Cell Phone Remote Control with Voicethread
1) Mathcasts and Social Studies reports , Wes Fryer highlights some excellent examples of Mathcasting and Social Studies reports with Voicethread. I am a big fan of Voicethread for use in education. Not just because Voicethread gives educators free accounts, but because now they have added a "telephone" option for commenting and controlling the Voicethread presentation.

New Study on Student Mobile Phone Usage in Other Countries
John Evans , a wonderful technology educator from Canada, sent me the study Children's Use of Mobile Phones: An International Comparison . They studied children ages 9-18 in Korea, Japan, India, Mexico, and China. The document is over 60+ pages long, but I wanted to summarize one of the interesting finds; the number of students who own and use mobile phones. % of 12 year olds with a cell phone Japan=50% Korea=87% China=27% India=11% Published by GSM Association and the Mobile Society Research Institute within NTT DOCOMO in February 2009.

Mobile Learning Study Shows High Acceptance of M-Learning Among Students
Table from the Study - EFFECTIVENESS OF MOBILE LEARNING IN DISTANCE EDUCATION
came across this study in one of my web searches and I was pleseantly surprised because it’s an actual research report and not just another technological opinion piece that infers that mobile will be “big” (no offense to anyone who writes about that, I do it too). The study is titled, EFFECTIVENESS OF MOBILE LEARNING IN DISTANCE EDUCATION , and written by Dr. I Muhammad Imran YOUSUF.

New Report Reinforces Mobile Learning is Best as Performance Support
I just read an article titled, “Smartphones Make IBM Smarter, But Not As Expected” about IBM and Columbia University’s recent study on the behavior and effects of mobile learning within IBM. The study was very insightful, and the findings support the notion that m-Learning is currently best consumed in the form of performance support material. Employees Employees did not find the mobile courseware to be particularly helpful. This may be the nature of their jobs, so I don’t think this means that mobile courseware of any kind is not useful.

Report: Sydney AUC iPhone SDK Workshop
Nick’s interest in all things Apple has naturally led him to apply his studies in Software Engineering to developing all manner of cool, useful, and whacky iPhone apps. There has been considerable activity at the University of Canberra with the implementation of Apple-based systems for supporting teaching and learning. With the University installing a new lecture recording system, staff here in the Teaching & Learning Centre have been focused on ways to optimise the capture, editing, and delivery of videos from all sources (including learner-created, teacher-created, and lecture-recorded).
