One of the strongest criticisms about introducing cell phones in classrooms is that students use the devices to bully others or to organize fights via text messaging. While there is no doubt that this occurs, there is also no doubt that it’s not the cell phone that creates this behaviour. A cell phone is a communication tool and students are using it to communicate. By banning cell phone, we don’t stop the bullying nor do we stop the negative type of communication amoung students. | CELL PHONES IN LEARNING MAY 27, 2008 Museum Mobile Tours and Cell Phones Museums have started to take advantage of the growing number of people with cell phones, by providing self-paced tours on cell phones. Museum patrons can dial a number and instantly get an audio tour (some even have image and video options for cell phones that can handle those types of media). CELL PHONES IN LEARNING | MONDAY, JANUARY 4, 2010 SCVNGR: Cell Phone Scavenger Hunt Builder! Thank you to Jeffrey Branzburg for pointing me towards a resource called SCVNGR. Most of the scavenger hunt type applications online only use smartphones, so it is fantastic to come across one that is more accessible (since over 60% of cell phone users still have basic phones). The only negative of this resource is that there is a small cost to play (they use credits for each game). In SCVNGR you can participate in or create your own mobile scavenger hunts. It is very easy to create your own SMS scavenger hunts. SCVNGR using a WYSIWYG template system to set it up. MORE >> -
MOBLEARN | FRIDAY, OCTOBER 22, 2010 mobile phones: the e-readers of choice in South Africa have blogged about m-uBuntu before – a growing family of schools in South Africa who are using “cell phones” to transform how they teach. Championed by the excellent Steve, Ana & Marion at the University of Cape Town m-Ubuntu – Helping transform teaching in impoverished classrooms, and empower resource-poor teachers. MORE >> -

CELL PHONES IN LEARNING | MONDAY, MARCH 9, 2009 Cell Phone Conferencing A Free Tool for Teaching! Cell phones can be a handy conferencing tool for teaching and learning. BUT.They can if they have a cell phone (any cell phone will do). Some of these web tools even record conferences as MP3 or Video files, which can be converted to be viewed and/or heard on cell phones as an archived file. Using a resource such as Podlinez , the mp3 files of the conferences can be given a call-in number so that people who could not attend the live conference could still call-in to hear the conference. This resource allows up to 96 callers on one call at a time. MORE >> -
