A brief update on Augmented Reality
Throughout the demonstration I was able to see several tagged locations through the cell phone display. Mobile Monday at Zurich was interesting from a mobile learning perspective. Augmented Reality has been on the map for quite a while now, but at the ETH (Zurichs renowned University) we were allowed to have an upclose look at what some companies are doing.
Here is a short overview:

ELI 2010 Spring Focus Session on Mobile Learning - portfolio
define mobiles as anything lass than a laptop, so netbooks, the yet-to-come iPads, eBook readers, and cell phone all fall into this. Utilizing a minimalist, keep-it-short-and-sweet approach, one may be able to leverage the small screen real estate on phones to their maximum advantage. portfolio Brett Bixlers online professional portfolio. Persuasive Video on Cell Phones and Schools
The goal is to give a perspective of educational history and technology, where common technology tools (such as a chalkboard or pen or even Internet) were once banned and labeled "harmful" as we are doing with cell phones. I created this video for my presentation at the MACUL conference tomorrow in Grand Rapids, MI. I would love some feedback on it.

Cell Phones in Education Part 1: Productivity
As I stated in an earlier blog post , I an beginning a new series on using cell phones in learning to go along side my iPods in Education series. I hope through this series of blog posts to provide practical ways teachers and students can use cell phones to help kids learn as a way to challenge the standard bias that cell phones are a useless distraction in the classroom.
In beginning this discussion, I want to focus That is to use a cell phone for personal productivity. All cell phones made within the last decade or so have a built-in calendars with personal

Ideas on how to teach young children cell phone etiquette/safety
I decided to write this blog because we seem to be ignoring some important statistics when it comes to cell phones and young children. According to the Yankee Group (2006) survey by 2010 54% of tweens ages 8-12 will have a cell phone. Additionally many phone companies such as Leapfrog are creating "starter phones" for younger kids with parent controls. We often wait until kids have cell phones before we start talking with them (if we talk to them??) about appropriate and inappropriate etiquette and safety.

6 Degrees of Flickr Mobile
You will be given an email address where you (or your students) can send mobile pictures (using any basic cell phone SMS service) to your private or public (you decide) Flickr photo account. This means that for homework students can start a project with Flickr mobile (such as a digital storybook), where they create and take the pictures with their cell phone at home, in the park, or at any other location. Have you tried your Flickr mobile account yet? If not, you may want to activate it.

Cell Phones in Education Part 4: Learning on Location
Disclaimer : While this post presumes the use of a smart phone, and while it is true that not all students own a smart phone, with the current shift toward smart phones, soon, smart phones will be as prevalent as cell phones are today.
This is where the mobile phone comes into play. When I reflect on what is traditionally thought of as a field trip in a typical K-12 school setting, what often comes to mind is a visit to a location that may have some direct or indirect connection to the unit of study being taught. The vision of students visiting different

Update: Polling by Cell Phone - Can We Completely By-Pass Clickers?
As the break-neck speed at which development of digital technology continues to take place, and considering that my November 27, 2007 blog post titled “Polling by Cell Phone - Can We Completely By-Pass Clickers?” 8221; is currently my most viewed post, I decided to share an update concerning the use of a cell phone, and now even an iPod Touch, as a clicker.
Thanks to my Twitter network, in particular @dougpete , I was made aware of a recent announcement made by Turning Technologies that they are making available a free iPhone/iPod Touch app that will allow users to install their clicker software to a student’s iPhone/iPod Touch, thus incorporating the ability to poll students using their response system software on a mobile device that students already possess.
