MLEARNING TRENDS | WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 28, 2011 Enterprise Mobile Learning 2011 - Year in Review It’s time once again to take stock of what happened in enterprise mobile learning and see if any of my 2011 predictions hit their intended targets. One year ago today, I offered nine predictions running the gamut of hardware, software, industry players and general market movements based on trends we were experiencing in the commercial mobile learning marketplace; here’s my analysis of where these predictions landed twelve months later. 2011 proved to be another year more focused on the pilot project rather than the production deployment for enterprise mobile learning solutions. -
IGNATIA WEBS | FRIDAY, DECEMBER 16, 2011 #unesco_mlw Mike Sharples on #mLearning pedagogies Appropriate pedagogy and learning with mobile phones. He gave an overview of different learning models for mobile learning. We need to look at education that could not be done in traditional education before, that is the strength of learning with mobile devices. One important remark: the public empowerment potential of mobile devices is an incredible strong point for learning (formal and informal). For instance landscape learning with 3D models, mobile devices with augmented reality capacities. This was a successful mLearning project in Chili. -
IGNATIA WEBS | THURSDAY, DECEMBER 15, 2011 Benefits in #mobile technology development: the implications for #education #unesco_mlw Panel: Mario Deriquito, Jill Attewell, Don Knezek, Jonghwi Park on mobile tech development benefits Mario Deriquito, beliefs in mobile technology for improving the educational system (works in Philipines). But the mobile solution will not be immediate, nor will it be a total solution. Not all knowledge that young kids can learn, can be delivered through mobile phones. So there are barriers in harnessing mobile technologies for education. Maybe mobiles can help in getting back in touch with school dropouts. Staff development is essential. -

He got into a project: programmable open mobile internet 2020. So he is involved in creating mobile technology to be used in 2020 (thought: what is the audience he has in mind?). -

UPSIDE LEARNING | THURSDAY, DECEMBER 8, 2011 The Mobile Internet Explosion In India Came across this really interesting presentation about the growth of mobile internet in India by Mashable here – Mostly Mobile: How the Internet Is Consumed in India [INFOGRAPHIC]. 71% of India’s population uses mobile phones – that is 858,370,000 individuals! UPSIDE LEARNING | TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 1, 2011 What Is Mobile Learning? There is a lot of talk of mobile, social, and informal learning at the vendor stalls this year. The most confused, if not misused, term seems to be mobile learning. One large learning systems provider says mobile learning is what’s done on your laptop. The mobile part is that the solution lets you complete your courses even when you are not connected to the Internet. To be fair it does help your mobile workforce learn through your LMS. But instead of calling it mobile learning, I’d rather call that an offline-LMS. Mobile Learning mLearningAgree? -

MLEARNING | SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 7, 2010 QR Codes: Here Today, but Gone Tomorrow While I was very interested in their potential when they were almost unheard of in the western hemisphere, I now believe they provide an interesting technology for situated mobile learning in the present day, but I increasingly think will be supplanted by visual searching (e.g. Google Goggles ) and mobile text recognition (both typeface and handwritten) within about five years. The former technology, visual searching, allows mobile devices to visually “recognise shapes of objects, logos, etc. taken with a mobile phone camera, and use that to retrieve information. | |
