mLearning Testing Tools & Methods
Finally, the best simulators/emulators are from the device OEMs themselves including RIM/BlackBerry , Google/Android , Nokia/Symbian and Microsoft/WinMo . As active practitioners and consultants for enterprise mobile learning initiatives, a frequent question we get asked is “What kinds of tools can you recommend to help us test our mLearning content before we release it to our mobile workers?” It is a great high level question and the answer is both complicated and multifaceted as each deployment environment comes with its own unique requirements that inject their own set of delivery

My mLearning Predictions for 2010
We can all expect advances in next generation devices and capabilities from Apple, Google/Android, RIM/BlackBerry, Microsoft, Palm, Nokia and others. It is also easy to anticipate that i nformal/self-service learning will begin to trump formal/assigned learning in terms of "monthly seat time" as mobile learning begins to facilitate learning and contributing anywhere at any time. So, without further ado and in no particular order, I offer my early January predictions for mlearning in 2010. After many years of sitting on the sidelines and reading the postings of others, I've decided to enter 2010 with this new mLearning Trends blog where I can post my own scattered thoughts and musing about all things "mobile learning" and begin sharing my own experiences in the design, development, deployment and support of mlearning solutions for the enterprise.

Microsoft iPhail released
Apparently, Microsoft released their “answer” to the iPhone today: a refreshed version of their Windows Mobile operating system, skinned with an iPhone-like icon-driven navigation system, dubbed “Windows Mobile 6.5″. C’mon Microsoft, you’ll have to do better than that if you want to claw back market (and mind) share!

What is Microsoft up to....
It will be much busier the end of the spring semester as I ready for my sabbatical. I did fall upon a couple of stories from Business Week and the New York Time's on the state of mobile computing at Microsoft that appeared interesting. I have placed the link below: Microsoft's Mobile Progress Here is a similar story from the New York Times: Sony Ericsson to Make Windows Mobile Phone Note: I have been busy so this blog has been a little slow.

Sorry to all the Microsoft fans out there, but if MS is getting into cloud computing (as they have by announcing MS Office and Windows 7 will feature cloud-connectivity), then you know that its probably already a happening thing. So How many Educators are tapping into such services?

great company started by Mike Alexander who is a Microsoft Certified Application Developer (MCAD) and author of 8 books on advanced business analysis with Microsoft Access and Excel. The more specialized one are available for 25$ which is also a good bargain because you know they will be relevant. If you are more of a reader and you want the information to be really related to the Excel 2007 version of the Microsoft software, you can look at this text (accompanied with screenshots) from Productivity Portfolio . Yesterday a colleague of mine came up to me and asked me about online tutorials on pivot tables in Excel.

Free M-Learning Applications
If anything, CNN reported in January 2006 that Microsoft founder and Chairman Bill Gates believes cell phones are a better way than laptops to bring computing to the masses in developing nations.” It’s fantastic for students to have access to powerful software tools that help them develop their skills; and it’s even better if the software is free. A prolific developer of mobile applications, Tea Vui Huang, provides the tools he develops for free via his website; and many of his applications are either very useful for education, or are made-for-education.

The Powerful Combination of Mobile Devices and Learning Apps
That having been said, this reality is changing quickly with the likes of Palm, RIM and Microsoft also developing a marketplace and vendor space for apps that will increase and improve the availability of learning app for students.
In discussing the use of mobile devices, it is easy to forget that the educational and productive power of mobile devices comes through the integration of the devices with other tools. The mobile device, after all, is a hardware tool that makes certain tasks possible but the actualization of those tasks ultimately depends on the use of software or web tools.
