A brief update on Augmented Reality
Mobile Monday at Zurich was interesting from a mobile learning perspective. GBanga – GBanga is a small company which specializes in creating AR games. One of the games was a scavenger hunt where each player could collect certain items or had to go from spot A to spot B. This might be a great Augmented Reality has been on the map for quite a while now, but at the ETH (Zurichs renowned University) we were allowed to have an upclose look at what some companies are doing.
Here is a short overview:

Top 50 Mobile Learning Resources
I’ve spent an inordinately long time writing a whitepaper on mobile learning trying to expound our thoughts about it and how it might be used in the workplace. Again, as with the links I posted about Games and Simulation, these aren’t categorized in any way nor does the order assume any significance.
If you’re considering mobile learning in any shape or form, I’d suggest you give these a browse. I’ve ve been doing some research around it and I’ve documented some of the better links I’ve come across.

Five Myths of Mobile Learning
I’ve been occupied with writing a paper to promote the adoption of mobile learning amongst corporates and enterprises. While trawling through multiple web-links, a pattern of myths about mobile learning emerges. Devices lack in screen and key size and processing power - It’s said quite often that as compared to personal computers, mobile devices lack the large physical interface devices (keyboard, monitor, mouse, printer…) Quite a bit of back and forth about these myths - I’m taking the liberty of listing and describing the five that struck me as odd, and am attempting to debunk them to an extent.

Mobile Learning in India
They don’t realize it, but today’s mobile phones have the computing power of a personal computer from the mid-nineties, while consuming a fraction of the energy and are made at significantly lower cost.
In India, the mobile phone has revolutionized communication and India is now one of the fastest growing markets for mobile phone services, with growing usage and increasing penetration. Six in ten people (more than 4 billion individuals) around the world are carrying a powerful computing device in their pockets and purses. According to TRAI, there are 286 million wireless

Children and Mobile Learning
This is a pretty in-depth report from the Joan Ganz Cooney Center on m-learning with children.
Most of my attention has gone to corporate and adult mobile learning over the years, but looking through this report I can see a lot of similarities with k-12 mobile learning. Based on this report, it seems that those future adult learners will be much more acclimated to mobility and m-learning than the current generation of corporate learners (i.e. Pockets of Potential Report
And of course, the children of today are the adult learners of tomorrow.

A Great Resource for Mobile Learning
I’ve been doing some research for a paper I’m writing on mobile learning for distribution within my company. As I went through all of the resources I’ve collected, I came back across one that I really think is worthwhile for learning professoinals to have a look at. The book is called “Innovative Mobile Learning Techniques and Technologies” and it’s a collection of studies and resources put together by Hokyoung Click the image to go to the Google Preview
The book is available at http://www.igi-global.com/reference/details.asp?id=8262

My mLearning Predictions for 2010
After many years of sitting on the sidelines and reading the postings of others, I've decided to enter 2010 with this new mLearning Trends blog where I can post my own scattered thoughts and musing about all things "mobile learning" and begin sharing my own experiences in the design, development, deployment and support of mlearning solutions for the enterprise. While I'm quite familiar with where mobile has come in the educational space, and our experiences have some nice overlap, the reality is our "world view" is very focused on how businesses seek to leverage mobile technologies
