Most of the scavenger hunt type applications online only use smartphones, so it is fantastic to come across one that is more accessible (since over 60% of cell phone users still have basic phones). Thank you to Jeffrey Branzburg for pointing me towards a resource called SCVNGR. In SCVNGR you can participate in or create your own mobile scavenger hunts. The hunt can be anywhere! | MOBLEARN OCTOBER 22, 2010 mobile phones: the e-readers of choice in South Africa have blogged about m-uBuntu before – a growing family of schools in South Africa who are using “cell phones” to transform how they teach. We have been out there a few times, and were very excited to hear it being reported on by “The Word”, a US radio channel who spent a while in Cape Town visiting two great mobile literacy projects there: M4Lit – Mobile Phones for Literacy. It is the perfect example of collaboration, empowerment, and shared learning. Our m-Ubuntu project in South Africa hits the news in USA! Young people writing mobile stories. | CELL PHONES IN LEARNING NOVEMBER 28, 2007 Scavenger Hunt with Cell Phones! So I have been thinking about Classroom Performance Systems (often called the "blue clickers" by my student teachers), and wondering if a cell phone can do a similar function. In addition, I think that using cell phones would help "connect" students with their everyday lives outside of school and the tool they are using for class activities. This is how it works. | CELL PHONES IN LEARNING MARCH 9, 2009 Cell Phone Conferencing A Free Tool for Teaching! Cell phones can be a handy conferencing tool for teaching and learning. BUT.They can if they have a cell phone (any cell phone will do). Some of these web tools even record conferences as MP3 or Video files, which can be converted to be viewed and/or heard on cell phones as an archived file. Often conferences and meetings are conducted face-to-face. | | | | | | | | | -
THE MOBILE LEARNER | SUNDAY, AUGUST 26, 2012 Is eLearning on Tablets Really mLearning – My Stance True, in the title, RJ focuses on tablets but I believe that mobile devices are also smart phones and media players (i.e. Keep in mind that my responses assume that smart phones and media players can also be used as mobile learning devices : Is the experience re-imagined for touch or is it just a conversion from something that was intended for the precision of the tip of the arrow of a cursor? great example of this is the YouTube app, it provides a unique experience in both portrait and landscape mode. Unacceptable! It’s time to set the bar higher!…Ask iPod Touch). MORE >> -

CELL PHONES IN LEARNING | MONDAY, JANUARY 4, 2010 SCVNGR: Cell Phone Scavenger Hunt Builder! Most of the scavenger hunt type applications online only use smartphones, so it is fantastic to come across one that is more accessible (since over 60% of cell phone users still have basic phones). They could participate in or create their own mobile scavenger hunt (for example in an English class students could answer clues about the upcoming novel or in a science class they could try to answer clues about the upcoming science unit while in their seats waiting for the other students to finish). In SCVNGR you can participate in or create your own mobile scavenger hunts. MORE >> -
CELL PHONES IN LEARNING | SUNDAY, DECEMBER 2, 2007 Create Enhanced Podcast Movies for a Cell Phone with PowerPoint Recently I posted about putting PowerPoint slides on Cell phones (see Doug Belshaw's blog , he created a wonderful tutorial). Since then I have been "playing" with the idea and have developed a way to create PowerPoint Enhanced Podcast movies for cell phones. The history site on Colonial Williamsburg is a great example of an enhanced podcast. There are some great benefits to being able to easily create an Enhanced Podcast and putting it on a cell phone. First, students can access class lectures/notes made with PowerPoint anytime on their cell phone. MORE >> -
THE MOBILE LEARNER | WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 17, 2010 QR Codes and Mobile Learning Below is an example of a QR code for anyone who may not know what a QR code is The code can be decoded by QR code readers that are usually found on mobile phones and are read using an image of the code taken by the mobile phone’s camera.
