They actively encourage schools to accept smartphones, and social networking as part their educational provision, and offer a range of guidelines and advice to different levels of practitioner. In the report, they deal head on with the challenges: The rapid growth in the use of social media and mobile devices has created both a crisis and an opportunity for school leaders. Very impressive! | IGNATIA WEBS AUGUST 30, 2011 Running race between open learning and formal higher education As the discussion on the future of higher education keeps on going, it is interesting to see how the presidents of colleges look upon these changes, particularly when looking at how top management looks at the pro's and con's of online learning. The public and college presidents differ over the educational value of online courses. Or web-based affordances at that. is unclear. | | | | | | | THE MOBILE LEARNER DECEMBER 23, 2009 iPods in Education Part 13: Uses in Kindergarten? have tended to venture away from discussing the use of mobile devices for learning for children of pre-school or Kindergarten age. Tags: edushifts iPod in Education reflections Two articles (links provided at the end of this post) have stirred my reflective attention toward the use of an iPod or iPod Touch with Kindergarten students. Despite the countless number of videos on Youtube of children as young as 1 or 2 using an iPhone or iPod Touch with ease, I am still unsure of where digital technology fits in the molding of young minds at those foundational times in their lives. | ULEARNING BLOG MARCH 7, 2012 What does the new iPad mean for education? Significantly, my number one item for how the new 2012 iPad will impact education is not the new 2012 iPad at all – its the fact that the 2011 iPad 2 is now much more affordable for schools – $100, or a permanent 20% discount in fact. And if schools take the tip of buying refurbished units when they can (these still have the full warranty) you can now get an iPad 2 for US$349. For students (and readers in general), I’m positing that there will be less eye strain – a good outcome for schools that are deploying iPads to large numbers of students. | THE MOBILE LEARNER JUNE 29, 2009 iPods in Education Part 12: Customized Learning Using Apps There has been a gap of several months since I last shared ideas in the form of a blog post on the topic of using iPods in Education. While the introduction of the iPhone and the iPod Touch has changed the rules in how handheld devices can be used in education, this series has laid dormant as I’ve been in the process of catching up with the technology. As I did not own neither an iPod Touch nor an iPhone, I didn’t feel confident that I could confidently discuss the benefits of using such devices in education. That is, until now. The future looks bright indeed. | MOBLEARN SEPTEMBER 11, 2011 Mobile Learning InfoKit [free download] projects mobile in schools mobile development work-based why mobile reading free resources top tipsHot off the press, we are pleased to present the Mobile Learning infoKit. MOBLEARN | THURSDAY, JANUARY 19, 2012 iBooks 2 – Introducing the future textbook? Steve Jobs reportedly spent the last few years of his life planning to shake up the textbook market, and revitalise education. Today’s event in New York is the first education-only launch from Apple in a long time. The Apple vision is by moving textbooks onto the iPad, they can be cheaper, more interactive, and ultimately more useful as educational reference tools. If you would like to see more samples, those good people at TheVerge have a bunch of photos of it in action over at [link] Will this transform educational publishing? Will this transform education? CELL PHONES IN LEARNING | WEDNESDAY, MARCH 5, 2008 Persuasive Video on Cell Phones and Schools The goal is to give a perspective of educational history and technology, where common technology tools (such as a chalkboard or pen or even Internet) were once banned and labeled "harmful" as we are doing with cell phones. I created this video for my presentation at the MACUL conference tomorrow in Grand Rapids, MI. would love some feedback on it. Enjoy! Update: Here is the Link to video on TeacherTube.Enjoy MORE >> -
MOBLEARN | FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 2, 2011 Google’s App Inventor … liberation or stagnation? Sounds like bad news for education … or is it? open source pedagogy mobile in schools app development learners as creators constructivism innovation google applications androidA year ago, Google released App Inventor – a fascinatingly visual, albeit rather buggy tool for developing android apps. Although not robust enough for our commercial development, we loved the fresh ideas about interface, and app building. Perfect tools for learning about coding. Today I found an email in my inbox announcing that Google are dropping support for it. Google are open-sourcing the code base. MORE >> -
MOBLEARN | MONDAY, MARCH 4, 2013 UNESCO Mobile Learning Week 2013 - free resources Existing policies have very little to say when it comes to questions of whether and, more crucially, how to incorporate mobile technology into education. But as champions for "out of school learning" we felt that there was a large, and gaping hole. What about "out of school / adult / working learners"? The focus was too much towards school age learners. lot of thought had gone into how to impact government policy, and improve access to IT in schools. The joy of momentum!
