When developing applications for just-in-time performance support, here are some items I keep on my checklist. | MLEARNING IS GOOD JANUARY 31, 2010 New Report Reinforces Mobile Learning is Best as Performance Support The study was very insightful, and the findings support the notion that m-Learning is currently best consumed in the form of performance support material. However, this study does point to mobile performance support, delivering context relevant content quickly and efficiently as a major enabler for productivity. employees used mobile information “for two main purposes: in-field performance support from colleagues and access to late-breaking information”. The article is in the January 2010 Issue of Training and Development Magazine. It was $10 to download. | | | | | | | DEVELOPER ON DUTY NOVEMBER 6, 2012 Streaming Video in eLearning - Pros and Cons First thing you need to do is have your videos on a server that can support RTMP. RTMP stands DevelopmentWhen adding a video to your course, you must first decide if you want the video to be stored in the course content, contained in the course package itself, or use a streaming video service. Streaming video is for videos that have been placed on a streaming server. The reason for doing this is to limit the amount of lag time on the video. With streaming video the server does most of the work, so the delay is minimal. You can set up your own, or have the videos loaded to YouTube. | IGNATIA WEBS JUNE 1, 2012 Great workshop on building #widgets with ROLE app In the last year the ROLE project developer team has bundled a set of technologies developed within the project such as learning spaces, local and remote inter-widget communication, tracking and access to learner interaction data, recommendation, etc. into one reference implementation, which is deployed and publicly available as the ROLE Software Development Kit (SDK). | MOBLEARN SEPTEMBER 9, 2010 Apple announcement is excellent news for cross-platform app developers! The big news of the moment amongst App developers, is the surprise announcement by Apple that they are relaxing some key restrictions on how Apps can be made. In particular they say: …we are relaxing all restrictions on the development tools used to create iOS apps, as long as the resulting apps do not download any code. They all use different languages. But – today this has changed. | RAPID INTAKE MOBILE LEARNING NOVEMBER 9, 2011 Adobe Drops Flash for Mobile - What Does it Mean for mLearning and eLearning? This morning Adobe stated that it will no longer develop the Flash player for mobile devices in favor of throwing their support behind HTML5 development. This will likely be a blow to Android device manufacturers who have counted on the Flash player support as one of the main differentiations from Apple devices, but what does it mean for e-learning and m-learning developers? mobile html5 mobile learning mlearning collaborative e-learning development flashFor mobile learning it won't have much of an impact. MOBLEARN | FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 2, 2011 Google’s App Inventor … liberation or stagnation? A year ago, Google released App Inventor – a fascinatingly visual, albeit rather buggy tool for developing android apps. Although not robust enough for our commercial development, we loved the fresh ideas about interface, and app building. Today I found an email in my inbox announcing that Google are dropping support for it. open source pedagogy mobile in schools app development learners as creators constructivism innovation google applications androidPerfect tools for learning about coding. MLEARNOPEDIA DELICIOUS | MONDAY, FEBRUARY 22, 2010 SCORM Implementation For Mobile Devices Mobile browsers now almost fully support JavaScript and this makes it possible to implement SCORM using JS support. But while implementing such on mobile devices we encountered that some of the well known mobile device browsers don’t support pop up windows – the Blackberry is an example. Some of the low level mobile devices browsers don’t support either popup windows and frame structures. But some browsers don’t support it. You must take care to ensure the native browser supports. So we thought sharing that experience might help. wap-profile. MORE >> -

IGNATIA WEBS | THURSDAY, DECEMBER 15, 2011 Any innovative #mLearning thoughts on education for development regions? #unesco_mlw So how can I get my voice heard, let alone get the voices or opinions out there from all the educators, teachers, trainers, support workers… that are spread around the world and are working with mobiles to enhance education day in day out? Today is the start of the first mobile symposium on learning organized by UNESCO. It is a joyous occasion, and I have been looking forward to it for weeks. There is only one problem… will this gathering of people result in new ideas on how to get relevant, impactful mLearning on the rails in regions that are lacking trainers/teachers and resources?
