Pontydysgu – Bridge to Learning - Educational Research
And we have written about the design idea and about work based learning. Use Cases for a Work based Mobile Learning Environment These use cases have been developed as both as part of our research into designing a WoMbLE and in pursuit of funding possibilities. The WoMbLE is designed to provide multi-user and multi-media spaces where learners can meet up with co-learners, to allow students to tag fellow students, academic staff and work colleagues (contacts); when a problem arises this service will enable Home People Blogs Chalkface Projects Publications Multimedia Research Events Services Contact Pontydysgu – Bridge to Learning Home Blogs Wales Wide Web Working & Learning My Learning Journey Anges Blog Jos Blog Dialogos PARADYGMAT GoogleTranslate Service Using mobile devices for learning in the workplace I’ve written a lot recently about the potential of the use of mobile devices in the workplace.

News is king of content on mobile devices
Mobile devices are used to consume media of all types, but the Pew Research Center reports that news is the number one thing that Americans access on their devices. But the fact that they already design their content in shorter easier to consume chunks, may have something to do with why we see it as acceptable and sought after mobile content. If news is what people are looking at when mobile, they will already It’s not hard to believe because our news has become increasingly “byte-sized”. We use our mobile devices frequently, but for short periods of time in most

Mobile E-learning Publishing: iPad, iPhone, or Kindle – Which do iChoose?
m also betting that Apple recognized the trend towards cloud based computing and “thin client” functionality implemented via HTML5 and web services and designed the iPad accordingly. See also Horizon’s 2010 report , which points to these trends. While it was enlightening to see Steve Jobs demonstrate what the iPad can do, I found it more interesting to see what the iPad cannot do. Tablet-like in size only, the iPad’s conformity to the iPhone OS, features and ergonomics suggest that we’re seeing Apple promote a renewed focus on empowering crowdsourced content creation over significant

Increased Mobile Data = More options for m-learning design
This is all about to change, Strategy Analytics reports that by 2011 we’ll see nearly a quarter of all mobile revenue worldwide coming from data. The upside for m-Learning design is in the increased bandwidth and increased number of users who have access to data on their mobile. While I’m the first person to admit that more and better media do not equal better design, they do open up the door to a high fidelity One of the biggest concerns for those trying to roll out mobile learning solutions is whether or not learners will be able to access the content. New Report Reinforces Mobile Learning is Best as Performance Support
The article also includes some good design tips, so definitely do what you can to get a copy of it. I just read an article titled, “Smartphones Make IBM Smarter, But Not As Expected” about IBM and Columbia University’s recent study on the behavior and effects of mobile learning within IBM. The study was very insightful, and the findings support the notion that m-Learning is currently best consumed in the form of performance support material.

Report says classroom walls and industrial-age schooling can go
As reported at eSchool News recently, a new white paper from the Partnership for 21st Century Skills (P21) says that while changing the curriculum, using digital pedagogies and training teachers are all important, it is the physical environment in which learning takes place that also needs urgent adjustment if the full advantages of the digital age are to be harnessed by schools. If its a new idea for you, don’t fret - all it takes is to read up on some universal design for learning (UDL) principles (which while coming originally from a disabilities/ learning styles perspective,

Report: Sydney AUC iPhone SDK Workshop
The course content was designed to be approachable for those with little experience in coding Apple applications in Objective C; and was really ideal for the mixed experience levels in the class (which contained everything from post-doctoral through to minimally-experienced developers!) There has been considerable activity at the University of Canberra with the implementation of Apple-based systems for supporting teaching and learning. With the University installing a new lecture recording system, staff here in the Teaching & Learning Centre have been focused on ways to optimise the

Learning Objects for Mobile (MLOs)
I’m trying to find the sections in the book that relate directly to design and implementation of mobile learning products and this book has a wealth of knowledge to help designers do just that.
Chapter 8, “Design and Development of Multimedia Learning Object for Mobile Phones” discusses a project where a reusable learning object for e-learning was redesigned for mobile consumption. I continue to read through “ Mobile Learning Transforming the Delivery of Education and Training ” edited by Mohamed Ally – Athabasca University in Canada.
