What might mobile media afford education? « David Gagnon
Here are some other examples: Chris Holden and Julie Sykes teaching a lesson in a Spanish 101 course at New Mexico State using iPod touches running aris in the physical context of a Spanish speaking neighborhood. 8221; This little part of the near-west side at one time had a rich irish community, but do to the construction of a hospital and other city planning, the tight community was replaced with parking lots and random storefronts. Critical pedagogy: people can learn, but that does not make them philanthropists
Mainly the statement that the increased pressure of corporations that indirectly forces (well, force is of course only powerful if you acknowledge it) universities and colleges to push all students more in the direction of workers, instead of becoming citizens in the first place. Creating critical people does not necessarily mean all citizens will follow the same set of moral rules, but it might build people that know how to construct long term visions. Social media helps us all to connect, we all learn at an increased pace, both in educational institutions, in our professional organizations/companies and just for ourselves.

How to recode a course into a mobile accessible html course
At ITM we make courses with different softwares depending on the content we want to get across. In this case the courses were initially made in eXe , with some interactive javascript and html as the technical basis of the course. The things I think off while recoding an existing course into an html course that is accessible with mobile devices (even cheap ones): Html editing software : I use dreamweaver at work, but if you are in need for a free and easy one: coffeecup.com Otherwise it would become an endless clicking with the risk of getting lost in the course.

eSCART2008: an online course for low resource settings - the final report
Today I proudly post our (= ITM's) final report on the pilot course of our newly build full online course: eSCART2008. I did write about the subject while the course was under construction, in that post I focused on the pre-survey we gave the learners. In a couple of weeks ITM starts another eLearning course for health care workers in the field specializing in ART (AntiRetroviral Therapy) . But this time it is the full report on the pilot that I am describing in this post. The response for this course was overwhelming and we were booked immediately.

Celtx a free and open source software for developing eLearning storyboards
If an eLearning course will be build with audiovisual aids, in most cases you will draw up or write a storyboard . This software is also useful if you want to construct a podcast which is in high need of a good narrative structure. The storyboard is useful to: make sure you cover all the learning objectives, test the continuity of the story/narrative you use to enlighten your learners keep the team of developers informed of their expected input and when their input is due. Celtx is a great storyboard software. It just upgraded to their 1.0

Australian Teacher Impresses with Cell Phones in Learning
The course will start with a single QR code, each pair will receive a different code so that they start at a different part of the course. Half way throughout the course is a QR code with a difference, it contains a template for an SMS message that links directly to my mobile phone. Once scanned the students will send a text message that basically asks for the next clue, which will then be sent to them so they can complete Australian educator Jarrod Robinson (Known as Mr. Robbo -- The P.E.

My top 5 list of agonising eLearning Myths
It is a misconception that an eLearner has no social contact with other e-course members. Well-constructed eLearning is about human interaction (discussions, group work...) There is no course on earth that will have great learning outcomes if this is the only thing you provide to your learners, so why would this approach work for eLearning? Through the last decade some myths got their paws on eLearning. And although a lot of us try to get these myths banned, they keep popping-up whenever I have an introduction talk on eLearning.

#ela2009 workshop George Siemens: social networking technologies for teaching and learning transformation
One of the workshops in eLearning Africa 2009 was lead by George Siemens , a Canadian from the Manitoba University who was one of the organisers of the CKK08 massive course in 2008 in which I participated my two cents . The great thing about these slides is that it gives you a holistic approach of what learning embraces: experimenting, gossip, collaboration, debating, constructing ideas ... He is always a source of innovative ideas. It comprises a lot of names from the educational realm, so if you are interested in pedagogy, you want to look for new (or I like to see them as

Questions about informal learning and the need for a global brain
While this statement had students in mind, in this day and age it is pivotal to every learner and of course every knowledge worker. Most of the courses at ITM are courses that stimulate peer-to-peer revision and participation. Some of the courses are built from a student demand upwards and communication is stimulated so a collaborative intelligence can emerge. Let me take you on a quest for learning affordance s and on a loop in which I will suggest that future informal learning will not differ from 19 th century teacher top-down learning. Two topics which I find

BlogPhilosophy: what if all the learning in the world, does not save it from itself?
It would give people the power to gather knowledge, not only that but they would construct knowledge and it would be taken up. And it resulted in a crisis from bad financial governing (being too crued, a lot of good stayed of course, luckily). This will be more of a grim post. The biggest aha-moment on eLearning I got this year came when I talked to Nicola Avery last week.
