Mobile learning (mLearning) is all the rage at the moment, but how do you get started and how do you maximize the mLearning plans you have? Interested? Interested? | IGNATIA WEBS DECEMBER 16, 2011 #unesco_mlw Mike Sharples on #mLearning pedagogies Constructive learning with mobile devices for meaningful, collaborative learning first they solve the problem themselves, then they discuss with peers to see what the others did and how this works or not with their own solution, after that the teacher gives feedback. So it is a three step process towards collaborative knowledge construction. This model can be used for a variety of learning problems and goals, every time constructing on the learners solution. Mentions the three C's of effective learning Construction, conversation, collaboration. | | | | | | | IGNATIA WEBS FEBRUARY 3, 2011 Preparing a massive open online course on mLearning, balancing old and new thinking A couple of weeks ago I started to structure an idea I had on organizing an MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) on the subject of mLearning. It will be an open and free course, so anyone with an interest in mobile learning can join, the course will be in English and incorporate a lot of social media that is accessible via smartphones, tablet pc's and computers. we are well on our way. | IGNATIA WEBS FEBRUARY 2, 2012 Noam Chomsky on the purpose of #education via #LWF So behind any significant use of technology, there needs to be a well constructed apparatus. Across time there have always been people who's voice was sounding louder than the voices of others. Simply because they have/had a solid opinion based on vision and strong arguments. One of these voices in the past 50 years has been Noam Chomsky. These two sides are always there. | IGNATIA WEBS JULY 30, 2012 New, free #report on innovating #pedagogy by Open University UK The Open University of the UK has just published a free report (38 pages, open layout) on the emerging innovative online pedagogies of today. IGNATIA WEBS | TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 4, 2012 Call for peer review on #mLearning Curriculum Framework Adele Botha took the lead to construct a Mobile Learning Curriculum Framework. And she graciously asked some domain experts to co- construct it in a first phase. So we (Jacqueline Batchelor, John Traxler, Marlien Herselman, Agnes Kukulska-Hulme, Tom Brown, Mike Sharples, Johannes Cronje, Dolf Steyn, Leon Kunneke, Gloria Adedoja and myself Inge de Waard (so people from South Africa, Nigeria, United Kingdom and Belgium) got together and got a draft going. But now the floor is open to all of us to strengthen the framework. Look at the course wikipage here for more information. MORE >> -
IGNATIA WEBS | MONDAY, AUGUST 18, 2008 My top 5 list of agonising eLearning Myths Well- constructed eLearning is about human interaction (discussions, group work.) Through the last decade some myths got their paws on eLearning. And although a lot of us try to get these myths banned, they keep popping-up whenever I have an introduction talk on eLearning. Because these myths keep on roaring their ugly heads, I have written down my top 5 list of agonising eLearning myths to use them in a small booklet I am working on. also added my short reply to these mythical questions. bet you know (some of) these myths and I am especially interested in your replies. IGNATIA WEBS | WEDNESDAY, MAY 2, 2012 Selecting meaningful #socialmedia tools for a #MOOC or #PLN Where learners are asked to build a presentation, share it and discuss each other’s work ( constructively). A big part of setting up an open, online course (e.g. MOOC), or gearing up for a Personal Learning Network (PLN) is the selection of meaning social media tools. In order to get an overview of the big families in social media, I started to make a list for my own comprehension and future selection. added some examples to each group, but those are just the ones that immediately came to mind. If you see that I have missed a group or set of social media tools, feel free to let me know. MORE >> -

Panel: Mario Deriquito, Jill Attewell, Don Knezek, Jonghwi Park on mobile tech development benefits Mario Deriquito, beliefs in mobile technology for improving the educational system (works in Philipines). But the mobile solution will not be immediate, nor will it be a total solution. Looking for mLearning solutions that can be mainstreamed. Not all knowledge that young kids can learn, can be delivered through mobile phones. But what about values, leadership, relating to people. that needs to be learned through personal interaction.
