How On Target Were My 2011 Predictions? Prediction #1 - mLearning Engagements Expand. examples the industry has waited for over the past many years. | MLEARNING TRENDS JANUARY 2, 2011 Enterprise mLearning Predictions for 2011 will agree that accessing mobile learning content via a device’s embedded web browser can be an effective and useful delivery modality (and is improving every year) but the overall experience is generally watered down and less effective and engaging. After almost 18 months, RIM’s AppWorld site has only grown to around 15K “apps” for BlackBerry wireless handhelds and none of these current apps work on the upcoming PlayBook tablet meaning a whole new series of apps must be written – the classic “chicken & egg” problem. mLearning Engagements Expand. Pad/Tablet Use Explodes ! | RECENT POSTS AUGUST 31, 2010 | MLEARNOPEDIA DELICIOUS Scitable is Now Optimized for Mobile Learning — Chris Abraham | | | | | | THE MOBILE LEARNER JANUARY 17, 2011 Apps: Web Apps or Native Apps? The first is that one only requires one native app – a mobile web browser. So long as the device can connect to the internet using a modern mobile web browser, the user can connect to content on the web and save information using online services. Is the building you find yourself in weakening the signal to and from the cell tower and lacking wireless internet? As the tide continues to shift toward mobile devices and the mobile web, devices have become more of a means to an end rather than the end itself. Web Apps. Traveling on a subway underground? Native Apps. | MLEARNOPEDIA ON BLOGSPOT FEBRUARY 15, 2012 Global Mobile Awards The proprietary UbiSurfer browser shrinks data using Datawind’s own proxy servers and allows for fast web delivery on existing infrastructure. In less than two weeks, mobile leaders worldwide will be gathering in Barcelona for the GSMA Mobile World Congress, the world’s largest mobile exhibition. An important part of this conference is the 17th annual Global Mobile Awards. | MLEARNING AUGUST 10, 2006 Four R’s Model and Mobile Learning Activities | Mobile Learning They can also recommend and share resources, for example, linking mobile devices (usually wirelessly) and sending a file from one to the other. Other products also allow file exchange, and operate on the longer-distance (100m) 802.11b wireless protocol. Some include “Press To Talk” functionality that allows PDAs connected to wireless internet to operate like Walkie Talkies. | THE MOBILE LEARNER MAY 8, 2010 Thoughts on the Current State of Mobile Devices However, we have seen a major shift in the way we use communication technologies mainly because wireless access to the Internet has improved dramatically and major investments have been made, and continue to be made, in mobile hardware and software. This new battle is one of philosophies – native apps vs browser apps – Apple vs Google. Much of this shift has resulted from the massive improvements in wireless Internet access. Computers ruled for three main reasons: more powerful hardware, better software and, most importantly, much faster access to the internet. | | | | | | | | | -
MLEARNOPEDIA ON BLOGSPOT | SUNDAY, JANUARY 10, 2010 2010 Forecasts Due to more powerful mobile data networks, ubiquitous access to wireless, mobile tools that work across platforms and more smart phones and devices that are Flash ready, many types of learning can be set free from the personal computer. One damper on progress has been the diversity and incompatibility of devices, and the lack of Flash on one of them, but this is becoming less of a problem as browser-based applications become available. I intended to write a blog entry in late December with my predictions for mobile learning in 2010, but somehow never found the time. but "how?". MORE >> -
MLEARNING TRENDS | SUNDAY, JANUARY 10, 2010 Picking the "Right" Smartphone for mLearning If the mobile audience is well defined, say the sales team and everyone has one of two different BlackBerry wireless handhelds configured the same and using the same carrier, your set of challenges is defined and well contained. They also probably lack Wi-Fi and have web browsers that make Internet Explorer ver 5.0 But if you're planning to support a broader audience where every mobile user picks their own devices for their own personal reasons, your set of challenges grows wide and varied. The reason is simple: mobile devices -- especially smartphones -- were not created equal. MORE >> -
MLEARNING TRENDS | MONDAY, DECEMBER 27, 2010 2010: mLearning Year in Review Several more of the Tier 2/Tier 3 LMS vendors also “tossed their hat in the ring” (or towards it anyway) announcing some way of publishing content so it could appear via a mobile browser on the iPhones , iPads and Android device trying to capture a few of their most “loyal fans” in learning land. True, accessing mobile learning content via a device’s embedded web browser is an effective and useful delivery modality but the experience is generally watered down to what works at the lowest common denominator level. A.K.A. How our January 2010 Predictions Played Out! Maybe next year. MORE >> -
MLEARNOPEDIA DELICIOUS | FRIDAY, DECEMBER 26, 2008 ScienceDirect - Computers & Education : Using mobile learning to increase environmental awareness Motiwalla Abstract Wireless data communications in form of Short Message Service (SMS) and Wireless Access Protocols (WAP) browsers have gained global popularity, yet, not much has been done to extend the usage of these devices in electronic learning (e-learning). This project explores the extension of e-learning into wireless/handheld (W/H) computing devices with the help of a mobile learning (m-learning) framework. 350px:auto); max-height:60; height:expression(this.scrollHeight > 60? prototype application was developed to link W/H devices to three course websites.
