What might mobile media afford education? « David Gagnon
Electronic books bring the advantages of indexing and searching to traditional text. Its also very cool to have all your books in the palm of your hand, not 20lbs of weight on your back while walking around campus. 8221; This little part of the near-west side at one time had a rich irish community, but do to the construction of a hospital and other city planning, the tight community was replaced with parking lots and random storefronts. Critical pedagogy: people can learn, but that does not make them philanthropists
If you have not read the best known book written by Paulo Freire yet (it was new to me, but what a great read and truly relevant to learning in general), you can download the first three chapters here , and the fourth chapter here . Creating critical people does not necessarily mean all citizens will follow the same set of moral rules, but it might build people that know how to construct long term visions. Social media helps us all to connect, we all learn at an increased pace, both in educational institutions, in our professional organizations/companies and just for ourselves.

Questions about informal learning and the need for a global brain
Getting a good TEL solution for courses (and I mean courses in the very broad sense: build them yourself, get the knowledge… kind of way) would be the thing to work on from my side. What we need is a book/wiki on TEL similar to ‘The Psychology of Everyday Things' by Donald A. Informal learning can only be done within the constraints of the knowledge it is accessing. With informal learning you look at/find static knowledge and you construct your own knowledge in a dynamic way. Let me take you on a quest for learning affordance s and on a loop in which I will suggest that future informal learning will not differ from 19 th century teacher top-down learning.

Where do we begin? How about with a "how to" book?
Darren Draper just left a comment and question on my blog about how and where do we begin demonstrating the knowledge construction capabilities of cell phones? K12 Online Conference, Edubloggers) but also with a book...actually actually my book (I know, a little self-promotion) that I am finishing with ISTE, our goal is to have it published before the NECC conference this coming June. I propose that we begin in many places (Classroom 2.0, The book is tentatively called Toys To Tools: Connecting Student Cell Phones To Education In and Out of the Classroom .

BlogPhilosophy: what if all the learning in the world, does not save it from itself?
It would give people the power to gather knowledge, not only that but they would construct knowledge and it would be taken up. I vaguely remembered a previous believe in the internet with a book called the Cyborg Manifesto by Donna Haraway (a great feminist book). This will be more of a grim post. The biggest aha-moment on eLearning I got this year came when I talked to Nicola Avery last week.

my journey into social media and why I became an evangelist
So if I wanted to know more about eLearning I could choose: reading books, getting a network going with people outside my working environment, surfing with focus to discover new knowledge. Reading books was great, but I soon discovered that on the edge knowledge in this rather new area of expertise was not print ready. The books were seldom tailored to my questions ( eLearning in Karyn Romeis is working on a dissertation exploring the impact of the use of social media on the professional practice of learning professionals. Karyn would like to know your story as well,

A Great Resource for Mobile Learning
The book is called “Innovative Mobile Learning Techniques and Technologies” and it’s a collection of studies and resources put together by Hokyoung Ryu and David Parsons at Massey University in New Zealand. eSCART2008: an online course for low resource settings - the final report
I did write about the subject while the course was under construction, in that post I focused on the pre-survey we gave the learners. The response for this course was overwhelming and we were booked immediately. Today I proudly post our (= ITM's) final report on the pilot course of our newly build full online course: eSCART2008. But this time it is the full report on the pilot that I am describing in this post.
