New Apps on Blackberry Make Online Learning Easy
I've always been a proponent of Blackberries in the mLearning world because I feel it is the choice device of 'road warriors' who would need an mLearning tool. Now, online schools are targeting the Blackberry for courses. What if someone told you that you can earn a degree from your Blackberry? Google plans to release software to make its email and calendar services work for the Blackberry. What if they said that you can study anywhere and anytime to fit it in with your schedule? With this July’s updates, it will be much easier to take online classes on the

Thanks to my Twitter network, in particular @dougpete , I was made aware of a recent announcement made by Turning Technologies that they are making available a free iPhone/iPod Touch app that will allow users to install their clicker software to a student’s iPhone/iPod Touch, thus incorporating the ability to poll students using their response system software on a mobile device that students already possess. A quick visit to their website also revealed that Turning Technologies also has a version of their software available for Blackberry and Windows Mobile devices.

Picking the "Right" Smartphone for mLearning
In our role of assisting customers and partners with planning and deploying successful mobile project projects, one of the key requirements every team wrestles with is where they need to "set the bar" when determining the target mobile devices they'll need to reach and support. If the mobile audience is well defined, say the sales team and everyone has one of two different BlackBerry wireless handhelds configured the same and using the same carrier, your set of challenges is defined and well contained. But if you're planning to support a broader audience where every mobile user picks their own devices for their own personal reasons, your set of challenges grows wide and varied.

mLearning Presentations using Google Docs
But until HTML5 gets out there and grows popular, linking people to rich media files and expecting acceptable cross-device performance is not a reality. You can't include any tests or quizzes after the mlearner completes the content as is preferred for most mlearning assignments. There's no tracking of who accessed the content and when. And, while Google Docs presentations work well on an iPhone or Android-based device, playback on virtually any BlackBerry - the current market leader for most enterprise mlearning deployments - WinMo or Symbian-based smartphone is not a workable experience
