It’s possible for us to set up customised SMS-response systems by working with a telecommunications services provider, but this can be a pricey or time-consuming exercise. Jane’s teacher uses an SMS reply system to provide a weekly summary of ten key terms or concepts learned during that week. | MOBLEARN SEPTEMBER 26, 2012 MobiMOOC 2012: Mind the Gap Together with my team we have been building apps / authoring tools / SMS engines / platforms / mobilized content and then using these with hard-to-access learners across the globe, trying to figure out what really does work, and add benefit. mobile conference case studies mUbuntu work-based usage blended learning learners as creators innovation trends MOOC applicationsThis morning I completed the second of two online presentations as part of MobiMOOC 2012 (an online, free to access course on mobile learning). If you or your students prefer Social Web applications to mobile ones, it’s also worth noting that quizzes can be made for Facebook, and if a walled garden is your course approach of choice, yes, quizzes can even be imported into Moodle. We had brought a generator and a pump,” said Stephanie Shih, founder of Occupy SMS, “but unfortunately none of the volunteers had a database of who needed to be pumped. ” As a result, Occupy SMS set up a system wherein people who had been affected by Sandy could text in their needs, and be matched with volunteers who texted in their capabilities. Read more about Occupy SMS here.). | MLEARNING TRENDS JANUARY 21, 2010 mLearning Content Types - Level 3: Voice Separate connection points to the global SMS/messaging network as well as integration into an organization's private VOIP voice networks have also been provisioned to allow fast and easy access to all mobile workers across an enterprise. CELL PHONES IN LEARNING | MONDAY, JANUARY 4, 2010 SCVNGR: Cell Phone Scavenger Hunt Builder! The great aspect of this application is that you can use it with basic text messaging (no GPS or smartphone required) OR you can use it with an iPhone! Most of the scavenger hunt type applications online only use smartphones, so it is fantastic to come across one that is more accessible (since over 60% of cell phone users still have basic phones). It is very easy to create your own SMS scavenger hunts. Thank you to Jeffrey Branzburg for pointing me towards a resource called SCVNGR. In SCVNGR you can participate in or create your own mobile scavenger hunts. MORE >> -

IGNATIA WEBS | SUNDAY, JUNE 27, 2010 What to take into account when chosing a mobile device for learning? Applications - can you add software that is build for your mobile phone, to your mobile phone? To me, being able to add extra applications to a phone is very important, as applications offer a wide variety of possibilities not necessarily integrated in the basic features of a phone (e.g. Touch screen or not : again this is very personal, some like touch screens, others do not (with touch screen you cannot write a quick sms blindly or from the pocket of your pants for instance, but on the other hand it offers immediate contact with what you see).
