However as we started development on mobile learning applications, the game changed drastically. Storyboards were sorely inadequate to describe application features and states. Mobile applications include myriad ways to present features, offer a variety of interaction types and combinations of those, making it very different. What we needed was ’something’ that let us model the features and functions of a mobile application. How much to prototype? | MOBILE LEARNING APRIL 29, 2008 Free M-Learning Applications It’s fantastic for students to have access to powerful software tools that help them develop their skills; and it’s even better if the software is free. prolific developer of mobile applications, Tea Vui Huang, provides the tools he develops for free via his website; and many of his applications are either very useful for education, or are made-for-education. | | | | | | | MOBLEARN SEPTEMBER 2, 2011 Google’s App Inventor … liberation or stagnation? A year ago, Google released App Inventor – a fascinatingly visual, albeit rather buggy tool for developing android apps. Although not robust enough for our commercial development, we loved the fresh ideas about interface, and app building. open source pedagogy mobile in schools app development learners as creators constructivism innovation google applications android | MOBLEARN SEPTEMBER 9, 2010 Apple announcement is excellent news for cross-platform app developers! The big news of the moment amongst App developers, is the surprise announcement by Apple that they are relaxing some key restrictions on how Apps can be made. In particular they say: …we are relaxing all restrictions on the development tools used to create iOS apps, as long as the resulting apps do not download any code. They all use different languages. But – today this has changed. | IGNATIA WEBS MARCH 19, 2010 Our iPhone for Moodle web application aks for your feedback It was never our attention to develop a Moodle/iPhone/iPod solution from the start. Standing on the shoulders of giants The coding got developed by looking at what was already there, and thinking about what would be relevant to have. An open community that can give support while developing any type of application is a strong benefit for any endeavor. | UPSIDE LEARNING AUGUST 2, 2011 JIT Performance Support Mobile App Development I mentioned before in one of my posts about the growing use of smart phones application as a form of Just-in-Time performance support; as mentioned before ; I feel eventually technology will enable individuals and not just companies/departments to deliver applications. When developing applications for just-in-time performance support, here are some items I keep on my checklist. | | | | | | | | | -
UPSIDE LEARNING | FRIDAY, AUGUST 20, 2010 Training Plan For iPhone Application Development Right now, everyone wants to develop applications for mobile devices and in particular for the iPhone, as it has changed the way we look at mobile devices. There is lots of material available about iPhone development on the web but very little about how to go about it. While working on IPhone development I have collected some links and we thought of creating a training plan for iPhone development for other Upsiders. The training plan below, assumes that you'll have the following skills to speed your iPhone development: Knowledge of C/C++/Java. Topic. MORE >> -
DEVELOPER ON DUTY | FRIDAY, AUGUST 24, 2012 Mobile Learning: Two Ways to Communicate With the SCORM LMS API' means Application Program Interface, such as the SCORM API, which is just a programmer's way of saying 'a set of specific guidelines that tell you how to communicate directly with the LMS'. Indirectly, by having the course communicate with some kind of bridge server or other applications that collects the data then transposes it into the right format for LMS communication. DevelopmentOne of the biggest challenges facing mobile learning course authors today is how to communicate with the learning management system (LMS). Most LMSes are either SCORM or AICC conformant. IGNATIA WEBS | WEDNESDAY, MARCH 11, 2009 From David Hockney to Photosynth: applications that build on social media content If you have not heard of it yet, I think you will like this application: photosynth of Microsoft. It is an application that builds on the result of social media applications that all of us help build together. This is an application that falls back on mobile devices or mobile learning in which the mobiles are used to capture pictures and add it to the group repository. The below application is actually what I was dreaming about when I was a child. Photosynth is a software developed by Microsoft in collaboration with the University of Washington. MORE >> -
UPSIDE LEARNING | THURSDAY, AUGUST 19, 2010 Rapid Prototyping For Mobile Learning Applications – II As I mentioned in my last post about Rapid Prototyping mobile apps , I’ll be discussing levels of fidelity and how you could determine which level works for your mobile application design project. When considering prototyping, think of the aspects of the applications that you’d typically want to model. To my mind there are three: Visual – how the application will look –an application’s look and feel is important, and is the one aspect that clients and stakeholders notice. There is no single correct approach to rapid prototyping mobile applications. MORE >> -
