It’s fantastic for students to have access to powerful software tools that help them develop their skills; and it’s even better if the software is free. | MLEARNING IS GOOD NOVEMBER 6, 2011 mLearning: ‘Using Your Senses’ Through the browser, you have access to geolocation through the devices location sensors (GPS and WiFi can be used to access the location of the device [link] And with native applications, you can access the camera, accelerometer, GPS location and any other sensors on the device. Obviously, there are several considerations when building a mobile learning application. Here are a few developer resources to get you started if you have to use the browser for your mobile design. desktop and mobile device). So how can you start to use these in your designs? link]. | | | | | | | MOBLEARN SEPTEMBER 9, 2010 Apple announcement is excellent news for cross-platform app developers! Although not really “app building”, special mention needs to go to JQTouch ( [link] ) and Sencha Touch ( [link] ), 2 AJAX frameworks that you need to use if you want web-apps to look and feel like native apps Rhodes / RhoMobile - [link] Rhodes is a harder-core techie solution, which tries to do without the browser, giving you tools to build cross platform native apps. | RAPID INTAKE MOBILE LEARNING MAY 10, 2011 Mobile Learning: Two Ways to Communicate With the SCORM LMS API' means Application Program Interface, such as the SCORM API, which is just a programmer's way of saying 'a set of specific guidelines that tell you how to communicate directly with the LMS'. The mobile web browser acts similarly to a desktop web browser, communicating with the LMS through Javascript. Most LMSes are either SCORM or AICC conformant. | MOBILE LEARNING MAY 23, 2008 Create free quizzes for cellphones/ Facebook/ Moodle Here’s today’s awesome m-learning find: a website where anyone can create a multiple choice quiz which is compatible with the vast majority of current mobile phones (it runs as a Java application, which most of today’s cellphones support). If you or your students prefer Social Web applications to mobile ones, it’s also worth noting that quizzes can be made for Facebook, and if a walled garden is your course approach of choice, yes, quizzes can even be imported into Moodle. Happy quizzing! via Ignatia Webs ). Authored by Leonard Low. Hosted by Edublogs | RAPID INTAKE MOBILE LEARNING FEBRUARY 9, 2011 5 Reasons Flash is NOT dying.give me a break! Still, our e-learning software relies predominantly on Flash for desktop browser consumption. Here are my five reasons Flash is not dying: Reason #1: HTML5 is not cross-browser compatible and Flash is Flash is still the best way to deliver content to desktop browsers. Cross browser compatibility is a huge (yes HUGE) problem. From the very beginning Flash was a godsend because it would work in almost any browser. Thousands of web applications (not to mention general websites) have it at the core. That it's old technology. Come on! Give me a break! | | | | | | | | | -
DEVELOPER ON DUTY | FRIDAY, AUGUST 3, 2012 Desktop Screen Video Resolutionator- anator for eLearning Screen Video Sessions To put simply, it's the background image on my desktop that indicates my chosen resolutions for applications, browser windows etc. When creating graphics, screens, or courses, I always layout my screen with margin and functional guides before I begin. You know, the lines pulled from the rulers that assist in element layout. Over the years and hundreds of screen video sessions later, I realized there is one layout tool that I use all the time for screen video sessions, and I wanted to share. The " Desktop Screen Video Resolutionator- anator " or DSVR for short. Tools MORE >> -
MLEARNING IS GOOD | MONDAY, DECEMBER 7, 2009 M-Learning Decisions: Web App or Native App? I’ve written a couple of posts about the differences and the advantages and disadvantages of native applications and web applications when it comes to mobile learning. But one thing seems to be clear and that’s the fact that mobile browsers are getting much better and most newer mobile browsers are implementing the WebKit Open Source framework similar to what Apple did when they created Safari for the iPhone. Native applications are great and can benefit from the performance gains of being on a device. “Native Vs. Web. MORE >> -

MOBILE LEARNING | MONDAY, MAY 18, 2009 The Mobile Learning Engine (MLE) for Moodle It features a custom Java application, capable of running on the majority of contemporary mobile phones. Some testing on different handsets shows that this Java application run on different handsets and at different resolutions. The big advantage of a custom Java application as a mobile interface is that the entire interface is dedicated to accessing Moodle functionality, rather than trying to fit Moodle menus and commands within a web browser, with its own menus and commands. MLE provides a mobile interface to Moodle in two different ways. Authored by Leonard Low. MORE >> -
Apple, Adobe, and the Flash eLearning Future He talks about HTML5, but the specification is far from being completed and full adoption into browsers will take time (read that "years"). Cross- browser compatibility for rich, interactive content. Without the Flash player, designing in HTML, JavaScript, and CSS, you have to be sure that what you create works in every browser. Not only is HTML5 far from being a replacement for Flash right now, even if it were, only the very latest browsers support it. Still, the discussion and all of the media attention it has garnered has raised some questions. Frankly, it doesnt. MORE >>
