MAY 20, 2009 Barcodes Offer Interesting Opportunities for Mobile Learning
Apple has a barcode reading app for the iPhone and you can purchase barcode or QR code (similar to barcodes) readers for almost all popular mobile platforms. All the money and concentrated brain power of some of the most innovative and powerful companies will certainly yield some great results in the form of new software, hardware and cloud based applications
to enable our productivity and creativity. Those other competing standards may come in the form of HTML 5, QuickTime or something else that Apple
has up their sleeve. As one Google guy I spoke with recently said, “everyone is thinking about mobile. And that is a really good thing for mobile learning. The version that will run on devices is 10.1, MORE >>
MLEARNING TRENDS Publishing our CellCast Widget for iPad
| FRIDAY, MARCH 26, 2010
The rush has been on this week as our development team worked to design a new version of our CellCast Widget specifically for Apple's
upcoming and much anticipated iPad tablet device. When Steve Jobs first introduced the iPad back in late January, he stated that existing Apple
iPhone apps and games would work fine on the new platform and, generally speaking, he was correct. In fact, we only had to modify a select number of functions and application
calls to ensure our standard widget would work on the new devices when they shipped. MORE >>

Ray also unwrapped a demo video of Blackboard’s new iPad application: Honestly, this looks like a promising app. Looking at apps like this one, you could imagine LMSs becoming more like Twitter in the sense that everybody uses their own preferred client (whether native or web-based) and mostly ignores the original UI that is delivered by the application maker. find a move to developing native apps for any internet based application including LMSs a little disturbing. can see why they want that but I am not sure why the world is so readily drinking the Apple Kool-Aid.
