But they do mention that the Apple versions (cross mobile) will be out soon as well. Last week I got a message from Stephanie Ray and she asked me to take a look and review Nota , a free mobile collaborative learning platform which is available in a web format and as a mobile app. As she mentioned that it was linked to Open Educational Resources (OER) of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) textbooks, I got intrigued. They only launched in January 2013 so still beta, which is the nicest state as all of our remarks on the tool are as such welcomed. all over again.

The iPad mini review for Educators
“It seems to me that in the last 2 1/2 years, Apple have pretty much already done the work needed to explain to most people what the iPad is. Beyond this, I’d probably also point out that Apple has done well in their goal of continuing to try and make the hardware disappear until all that you notice is the screen and the portals that apps open up for you. For me, the fact that there is space enough to include them in the mini makes it clear why Apple has moved to a smaller dock connector. And now, there’s a mini version – it really is that simple.

As part of our work on the MoLE project we have been revisiting the rapidly growing number of frameworks, libraries and platforms that developers can use to create cross-platform mobile apps If you are new to app development, you may know there is a constant debate between app developers, building “native” apps, and mobile web developers, championing “web apps”. This is a rapidly emerging area, with a flurry of very exciting toolkits available. We have hope you find it useful.

More thoughts on iOS5: “Its the how not what” #slide2learn #ADEANZ #iPadEd #Post-PC
Now I’ve had some time to read different reports and reactions (including probably 200 blog comments both pro and negative) to the massive range of Apple announcements today, it seems to me that as usual, most writers and pundits are missing the point. And only when iCloud is released will we really know if Apple have tied all the features together in a seamless, uber-usable way – but I posit that that is the true test of all these features - not what they are as much as how well they work. To instill a love for learning: reflection/review – new App ‘Ansel & Clair’ #slide2learn #iear #edapp
The app is listed as being for kids 4-9, an area that is not targeted as much by the 20,000+ education apps in the Apple App store. I’ve recently had the opportunity to test out ‘Ansel and Clair’s Adventure in Africa’ App from Cognitive Kid. They state a developer mission that is two fold: To encourage children to think, ask questions, synthesize information and develop higher order learning skills; and to instill a love for learning that will carry on from a child’s early years through his/her adulthood. Pretty high standard to live up to one would expect.

Mobile Learning: Course Interface Design for Smartphones (e.g. iPhone) Versus Tablets (e.g. iPad)
Apple iOS, Google Android, Blackberry, etc.) When designing a course for mobile devices we have to make a fundamental decision: are we going to design the course for both smartphones or tablets.or If we choose to support smartphones, we don't have a lot of screen real estate. How do we account for that? If we choose to support tablets, we have a lot more screen real estate. How do we take advantage of that? Smartphones First off, what we are designing is a content-based experience. It's not a game. It's not a calculator of some kind. Images can also be bigger.

‘Tablets are for normal people’ – Steve Wozniak. Love this statement re: the #Post-PC world #slide2learn #iPadEd
I think Steve Jobs had that intention from the day we started Apple, but it was just hard to get there, because we had to go through a lot of steps where you connected to things, and (eventually) computers grew up to where they could do … normal consumer appliance things,” Wozniak said. During a keynote session at Storage Networking World in Santa Clara, California, Wozniak was asked how tablets would change the computer industry. He compared them to TVs. The tablet is not necessarily for the people in this room,” Wozniak told the audience of enterprise storage engineers. link].

Fascinating story of where portable computing began w’ the Osborne1, the iPad of 1982 #slide2learn
When multiple operating systems still existed across the burgeoning early PC market, entrepreneur Adam Osborne created a machine that ‘just worked’ – it was called the Osborne 1, and unlike the Apple ||, was portable (well ‘luggable’). especially like the section (page 2) describing how care was taken to make the user experience seamless with all the needed drives, display and productivity apps included at a time when users normally had to make multiple additional decisions and purchases before being able to get working. My Reflections on the Mobile World Congress
My disappointments included: Apple, although the winner of the device of the year with the iPhone 4, was noticeably absent (although this is expected from Apple as they just do not participate in such conferences.) Over my career I have become a technology "conference veteran" beginning with Comdex in the 80’s. This event grew to over 220,000 attendees and over 20,000 vendors. For several years I was privileged to be a judge for Best of Comdex, so became very familiar with the conference. This is the first time that mobile learning has been recognized. mHealth was evident though.)

Apple is not against cross-platform apps per se, but until recently they were very against Adobe & Flash, and their previous stance was to a large extent an attempt to block several different technologies that allowed Flash apps to be automatically disassembled, and automatically re-assembled into an App. The smallprint of the Apple restrictions, also restricted this sort of App. They all use different languages.
