For example, in schools that prohibit cell phones, 54% of students still report sending texts during the school day (Lenhart, 2010). As we reach the first anniversary of this blog’s introduction, we thought we’d take stock and figure out how things are going by revisiting our list of predictions for enterprise mobile learning in 2010. So here’s the tally for "runs batted in (or attempted)" during the 2010 mLearning season. A.K.A. Validated (“Double”). Batter up | CELL PHONES IN LEARNING JANUARY 4, 2010 SCVNGR: Cell Phone Scavenger Hunt Builder! The great aspect of this application is that you can use it with basic text messaging (no GPS or smartphone required) OR you can use it with an iPhone! Most of the scavenger hunt type applications online only use smartphones, so it is fantastic to come across one that is more accessible (since over 60% of cell phone users still have basic phones). | MLEARNING TRENDS JANUARY 10, 2010 Picking the "Right" Smartphone for mLearning The reason is simple: mobile devices -- especially smartphones -- were not created equal. Everyone talks about how smartphones are really "pocket computers" -- and to some extent they are -- but the reality is some of the older mobile device still in active service are more akin to an early Osborne 1 luggable portable PC (circa 1981) than they are to a sleek and powerful mordern Dell Precision laptop or Apple Macbook Pro. Generally, older data-enable mobile phones have smaller screens, less storage capacity, slower processors and operate on slower 2G networks. | IGNATIA WEBS JUNE 27, 2010 What to take into account when chosing a mobile device for learning? Choosing the best phone for mobile learning can be quite a challenge. The amount of features you want to use will also allow you to purchase a low or high cost smartphone or mobile device. The same is true for PDA's, with these types of mobile devices you have a range of possibilities, but not the phone possibilities, this again decreases the cost. Or is it of interest to you? | | | | | | | | | -

MLEARNOPEDIA DELICIOUS | FRIDAY, APRIL 9, 2010 The future is mobile, but will it be participatory or proprietary? What could be a more perfect recipe for learning opportunities than the introduction of each new increasingly sophisticated mobile device and the growing numbers of smart phone users worldwide? Tags: mobile devices smartphones mobile learning participation learning developers are clearly eager to apply their ideas and skills in the mobile kitchen and cook up some new mobile innovations. MLEARNING TRENDS | MONDAY, JANUARY 4, 2010 mLearning Presentations using Google Docs The tweet I reviewed follows below: Google Presentations are Mobile Phone Ready [link] Indeed, Google's free presentation package does make it easy to produce and deploy a simple interactive presentation to mobile workers but there are several drawbacks to anyone considering using this functionality to send content out to enterprise mobile learners. Having used Google Docs for various business purposes in the past, I thought I'd give this use case another look and confirm for myself what others seemed so interesting in retweeting to the rest of the #mlearning followers.
