I intended to write a blog entry in late December with my predictions for mobile learning in 2010, but somehow never found the time. Mobile devices have certainly come into their own with champions and examples everywhere. In fact, Tech Crunch 's Ten Technologies That Will Rock 2010 , over half of them are mobile. Due to more powerful mobile data networks, ubiquitous access to wireless, mobile tools that work across platforms and more smart phones and devices that are Flash ready, many types of learning can be set free from the personal computer. Mobile devices are used to consume media of all types, but the Pew Research Center reports that news is the number one thing that Americans access on their devices. We use our mobile devices frequently, but for short periods of time in most cases and that follows the byte-sized model so news may be a natural fit. We may be able to take a lesson from news sources as we create our mobile learning. It doesn’t appear that news sources spend a lot of time thinking about the formatting of their mobile content. How our January 2010 Predictions Played Out! As we reach the first anniversary of this blog’s introduction, we thought we’d take stock and figure out how things are going by revisiting our list of predictions for enterprise mobile learning in 2010. So here’s the tally for "runs batted in (or attempted)" during the 2010 mLearning season. As predicted, the methods and tools needed for mobile content authoring and delivery also matured a generation or two over the “season” and a few new use cases for mobile learning appeared too. So, you’ve decided to give these new-fangled mobile devices a place at your 21st century education (a term I use because I know so many can’t stand it) table. During the initial planning and implementation phase of your work to tap into the potential benefits of mobile learning (such as portability, simplicity, agility and personalisation) I’d like to encourage you to turn your mind, and that of your students even, to problem solving.
