Update: Here is the Link to video on TeacherTube.Enjoy would love some feedback on it. The goal is to give a perspective of educational history and technology, where common technology tools (such as a chalkboard or pen or even Internet) were once banned and labeled "harmful" as we are doing with cell phones. Enjoy! | CELL PHONES IN LEARNING MARCH 16, 2008 Social Studies! Next Assignment.send a video message to presidential candidates cell phones! After reading about this opportunity on PicturePhoning , I thought this would be a great assignment for any social studies class studying current events, following the 2008 election campaigns. Students could research an issue of their own interest (such as stem cell research, the best way to get out of the current "recession", healthcare, global warming.etc), and send a video message through Mogreet the Vote to any of the presidential candidates personal cell phones. It might be a fun and engaging homework assignment | RECENT POSTS OCTOBER 17, 2010 | MLEARNOPEDIA DELICIOUS Cisco Blog » Blog Archive » Educause 2010 Proves Learning is (Going) Mobile | | | | | | CELL PHONES IN LEARNING SEPTEMBER 28, 2008 New Statistics on Teen Cell Phone Use CTIA-The Wireless Association® in conjunction with Harris Interactive has released some new research on cell phone use by teenagers (Release: September 12th, 2008). Visiting local museums has traditionally been a part of K-12 education. Museums have started to take advantage of the growing number of people with cell phones, by providing self-paced tours on cell phones. | CELL PHONES IN LEARNING MAY 20, 2008 What is your classroom "rules" list for integrating cell phones in the classroom? 1) Cell phones need to be on vibrate 2) Cell phones need to be in the front of the room (drop bag) until it is time to use them 3) Cell phones can only be used in class for academic/learning purposes 4) Any activity conducted on cell phones in class cannot be published without permission of teacher and/or students who are involved in the text/image/video/audio file (e.g. I think for many teachers one of the biggest concerns about including cell phones in classroom learning activities is that they will be used inappropriately. MOBILE LEARNING | SUNDAY, MAY 18, 2008 Students share their experiences of m-learning For the meantime, you can view this video of Carla and some of her students talking about their experiences with mobile learning in this video: [link]. I’ve been following Dean Shareski’s blog posts on mobile learning this year. Dean’s ongoing experiences with learners using mobile phones as learning tools continue to demonstrate what’s possible when it comes to using the advanced capabilities of cellphones in learning contexts. Were you tempted to use it to text or call in off task ways? Was it just a novelty? Are you still using it for learning?â€. MORE >> -
CELL PHONES IN LEARNING | SUNDAY, JULY 13, 2008 QR Codes.Integration into Learning? The Possibilities Here is a short YouTube video of "how QRcodes are used with mobile phones." QRcode for CellPhonesinLearning.com (generated from Kaywa ) I had been avoiding writing about QRcodes for a couple of reasons. 1) Because I did not quit understand them and how they worked. 2) For a while, most cell phones did not work with them or work very well with them. Times are-a-changing and I need to change with them. About a month ago I received an email from Bob Sopko at Case Western Reserve in Cleveland, OH. In Japan many cell phones are coming with software that can read QRcodes. What can a QRcode do? MORE >> -

THE MOBILE LEARNER | THURSDAY, DECEMBER 11, 2008 Reflections on the 2008 RCAC Symposium I was fortunate enough to attend another education technology conference in 2008 and this conference was the Western RCAC symposium held in London, Ontario on December 11th. When we buy a new TV, we are shopping for the creative experiences presented by visual artists - kids are doing the same thing when they are shopping for video games. Video games are changing the nature of learning but this industry will also drive an increased need in story writers, artists, musicians, etc - we should not shortchange the arts in our funding and in our instructional focus.
