Instructional Patterns in eLearning: Using Branching Scenario Simulations to Move From Information to Application Instructional patterns surface over time as best practices that have bubbled up to the top of instructional design usage. Over time, instructional designers approaches to the same instructional problem coalesce around a similar, if not identical, scalable solutions. Scalable means they meet the need in most situations and are not cost nor time prohibitive to create. One such instructional problem and pattern involve how to teach soft skills. RAPID INTAKE MOBILE LEARNING | WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 9, 2011 Adobe Drops Flash for Mobile - What Does it Mean for mLearning and eLearning? This morning Adobe stated that it will no longer develop the Flash player for mobile devices in favor of throwing their support behind HTML5 development. This will likely be a blow to Android device manufacturers who have counted on the Flash player support as one of the main differentiations from Apple devices, but what does it mean for e-learning and m-learning developers? For mobile learning it won't have much of an impact. Because of the need for cross-platform compatibility (i.e. So this decision will only bolster HTML5 as the platform of choice for mobile learning solutions. I've seen some evidence that learners are more likely to complete mobile learning courses (like the ones created with mLearning Studio ) than traditional online courses. assume this is because it is more convenient and thereby more enjoyable, removing the tedious barrier of having to sit in one place to get it done. Also, learners can do smaller chunks when they have time: waiting in line at the grocery store, at a restaurant, and on and on (think of all of the places we now compulsively pull out our mobile device while we wait). That’s as true for e-learning as it is for life. If a learner chooses an incorrect answer, it’s often very useful to explain why it is incorrect. Unless you are designing a certification exam you may even want to give them a hint that would guide them to the right answer. When developing rapid e-learning courses, and we are designing multiple choice questions we're often tempted (because of timeline pressures) to write general feedback such as 'That's correct.' or 'That's incorrect.' they are wondering.
