My social spaces and tools (You need more than one!)
One of my revelations in 2009 was the importance of social learning and how I need more than one social learning space. I am a teacher but I am also a computer hobbyist (a.k.a. computer geek). I use Facebook for my personal social networks, my blogs and wiki’s are always open to all but my [...]

Back to Blogging… What mobile device features are students using?
After a bit of a hiatus from blogging (I have been on a special project working with strategic planning and accreditation this semester), I am back into mobile learning and picking up where I left off. After looking at a few of my favorite mobile tech places on the Internet, it is like I never

An Example: Mobile Assisted Active Learning
S o what else can we do with a mobile device (like a cell phone)? Cell phones, aside from being a communication device also typically have audio, image and video capture support. In this post, I will discuss a way of using the video features of the cell phone for active learning. I am going to use a business communications example for this post, one that would be covered in my general Introduction to Business class but the possibilities for similar uses in other subjects are only limited by your creativity.

Freebies… Final Episode (for now)
I have dedicated this post and the previous two blog posts to free products that might be useful in getting a educator started with mobile computing via text messaging (SMS). Textmarks.com and especially twitter are very popular because they are mobile and because they are social media in nature (real time micro-communi cation). This post explores something a little different then there previous two SMS tools. Many educators have been using (or are thinking of using) clickers in their classroom.

Are you a Homo Competence? Bert De Coutere can tell
Last week I met Bert De Coutere during a preliminary meeting on a platform site for eLearning in Belgium. Bert is a great learning person to know. He is involved in learning management at IBM and as such he has given so many presentations, lessons, workshops… that I think he is one of the sole people you can just ask to stand up and share knowledge on any learning strategy.

A Seamless Learning Approach with Mobile Learning
I recently got my hands on an article called “Leveraging Mobile Technology for Sustainable Seamless Learning: A Research Agenda”, in the British Journal of Educational Technology. I found this article to be insightful because the authors provide a real concrete example of mobile learning as part of a seamless learning approach.

Mobile Learning Tools
At presentations and workshops, I am often asked to recommend tools for authoring mobile learning. I do not recommend any tools, but do encourage them to check with their current authoring tool vendor to see what their plans are for mobile, as many vendors are moving in this direction. Recently I have gathered information on the current tools and have compiled the following list.

Social Media makes this course stand out
Thanks to the great College20 community started by Eduardo Peirano, I could read a post by Alejandra Pickett that really blew my mind. The way she build her course is a great example of combining several relevant Social media to enhance a course. If you are a member of the College20 community, feel free to immediately surf to her post . (btw
